The common bed-bug is found in human habitations and can be particularly problematic in buildings like hotels and hostels where there is quick resident turnover.

They feed on the blood of humans, emerging at night from cracks in furniture joints, bed frames, and skirting boards to bite humans which is its principal host, though it will feed on other warm blooded animals.

The common Bedbug is 5mm long and looks like a small flat red-brown disc they cannot fly but crawl or can be passively transported in clothing, luggage, furniture, and books. In rooms that they are active they have a characteristic almond-like smell when they bite they can be painful and can cause severe irritation in some people there are other species of bed bugs.
